The Packaging?
The packaging is lovely in my opinion, really fun and really cute. You are bound to get a lot of questions from your friends as soon as you pull this out of your make-up bag for a on-the-go top up.
The Lancome shakers are designed to look like mini cocktail shakers, however these are made from plastic, so there wont be any spillages in the bag from these!
I love how the black glossy lid, is a clear visual to distinguish the different texture to the Juicy Shakers also buy Lancome.

What is the applicator like?
There’s no other lip product on the market to date which has this unique cushion applicator, except from Lancome’s own Juicy Shakers!
Its quite a wide domed cushion, with a point which allows for quick application and accuracy. It’s surprisingly so easy to use despite my first initial ‘that’s going to go everywhere’ thoughts, I think this is due to the pointed applicator and the outter shaker style lid, it allows for a firm grip and easy to manoeuvre.

IMG_2299 (2)

Does the product bleed/ run?
Not at all! This product is the best liquid lip I’ve found for colour pay off and for staying put. Due to its incredibly light ‘wet’ texture, it definitely covers the lip as a second skin effect, there fore does not bleed. Those of you who were familiar with Lancome’s old L’absolu Velvets, they had the tendency to bleed, due to the thick creamy texture however these stay put, meaning you can eat and drink in confidence. Perfect for date night!

How long does the product stay on for?
These last all day! I usually put these on around 8 am in the morning and usually get home around 6pm and they haven’t budge all day and they look just as good as when I initially left the house. I do like to give a quick top up after I’ve eaten, even though I could get away without (Bonus!) I think its just habit for me. I usually have to use my Bifacil eye make-up remover to get the bulk off before bed. These truly have the most amazing staying power.

Is the product suitable for dry lips?
Yes! I thought these may dry my lips out, however they don’t, again I feel this is because of the feather light texture. If you have really dry lips you can always apply a bit of lip balm before applying the shakers, the Renergie lip balm works perfectly for this I’ve found as its a nice light lip balm so doesn’t interfere the matte shakers, colour pay off or texture.

Tips & Tricks?
Get the product going quicker by shaking your shaker upside down! You will need to shake for every use due to the oil and pigment created in the product, oil has the tendency to separate when left.
Use the applicator in your favour! If you are wanting a bright punchy bold colour, use lots of small light dabbing motions over the lip to build the colour using the pointed end of the applicator.
If you want a sheer, wash of colour or a ‘just bitten’ type of colour, you are best to swipe the cushion applicator over the lip, using the rounded flat side of the cushion. This means not as much pressure is going onto the cushion for the product to release a lot of product.

Creative Lines – Eye Liner Style.

Liner, Liner, Liner.

How many of us get stuck in a rut when it comes to applying beautiful eye liner? Any of who know me will definitely know I love a good winged liner!

I thought today I would shake things up and share with you some creative ways you can apply your liner, scroll for tips and tricks for nailing your preferred liner…

Lancome Liner

Upturned: Your eyes have a natural upwards lift at the outer corner of the eye, you have visible lid space. To keep your eyes looking symmetrical and balanced a good tip would be making sure you apply liner on the top and underneath and mirror this.
Think: Angelina Jolie

Round: Your eyes are beautifully big and round. You have more ‘whites’ are your eyes visible than other eye shapes.
Think: Penelope Cruz

Monolid: You have a small eye shape with a less defined eye socket. This eye shape is very common in Asian Eyes. Bold liner is your perfect match for your eye shape!
Think: Sandra Oh

Downturned: You have a slight natural drop on the outer edge of your eye. Your eye shape is perfect for a lot of liner styles – especially the feline liner!
Think: Anne Hathaway

Hooded: Your eyes have a fold in the skin which gently rests on the lower part of the eye lid. The best liner for you is the hooded winged liner, symmetrical lines work best for you!
Think: Blake Lively

Liner Looks

Bold Liner
IMG_1799 (3)
I love this liner look, its definitely those for the brave who feel confident wearing a bold statement eye, straight from the runway!
This liner style is perfect for those of you who have a ‘monolid’!
I recommend starting from the inner corner and using your natural crease as a guide to follow. Then lifting the liner from the couter corner and perfecting into one smooth effortless line. You will need the Kohl Liner in your waterline for this one, for extra definition.

Feline Flick

IMG_0102 (3)My go to liner everyday! This is super quick and easy to do, brilliant for all eye shapes, but especially flattering for those of you who have a down turned eye.
I apply this liner by starting on the inner corner and lining my top lash line. I then like to use my bottom lash line as a guide to follow to know the angle of the flick. I then draw this line in and create a triangle shape and fill this in, so the wing has been made and soften the sharp triangle shape by creating a nice wing.

Bubble Liner

IMG_1294 (2)This is a super fun take on the feline flick liner and will definitely get people asking you about your liner in store! I like to map out a feline flick liner, as above and then create the ‘half moon’ shapes along the lash line. I have decorated mine with the Lancome Grandiose Blue Liner to enhance the bubble shape.

Cut Crease Liner

IMG_1754 (2)

Definitely more for the brave hearted! I’ve done this slighty over exaggerated and thicker than I would wear on counter so you can see the shape better. This works for the majority of eye shapes, but everyone’ s will look different due to the shape/ size of the eye! I recommend starting on the outside creating the line to go up and then connect the crease line by following your natural socket shape. This is one for when you have a few more minutes on hand!

Dotty Liner

IMG_1757 (2)
This is THE PERFECT Liner for those who want to wear liner, but cant master the neat ‘flick’, dot your way to creativity! Looks like you’ve spent ages on this, but takes about 30 seconds, go to liner when in a hurry believe it or not! Again I’ve used 2 colours to wear up the dots and to add interest – everyone should try this one!

Double Liner

IMG_1773 (2)This works great for a hooded eye! This looks amazing too when you just apply the liner to the bottom lash line and leave the top lash line bare!

Ombre Liner

IMG_1789 (2)Want to get creative and boost liner sales? Try this one, the Ombre Liner!
The Grandiose Liners blend amazingly together creating a dark navy colour too, which looks lovely to wear as one. Layer the black liner first, with the blue on top, if the electric sapphire colour is a little too bright for you.

Let me know if you try any of these looks out below, or tweet or tag me in your looks. My handle is @ruthbrabinermua

NEW KIT ADDITION: BBU Palette

IMG_1346 (4)

Dun, Dun, Duuuuuuuuuuuunnnnn.

Its here. I caved, I cracked, I crumbled. And I have no regrets, I’m now the proud owner of the Bobbi Brown Universal Palette.

I thought before I dig my fingers  and brushes in, I thought I would share with you, the beautiful pictures of this gorgeous palette.

I know some of you may be reading and be thinking ‘But eh Ruth! When are you really going to use all those colours, you’re a pale gurl…what a waste of money?!’ This lil baby is for my freelance kit, therefore all skin colours are covered, what a dreamy product!
This palette is definitely fitting for the professional make-up artists whom find themselves working on a variety of skin tones on a day to day basis, as ALL skin tones are covered. Those Make-up Artists who travel a lot, this is a dream as its so light and compact, many of my friends who love make-up who don’t necessarily do freelance make-up, have been shocked at the size of the palette, however being a freelancer, this size is perfect! Also this palette is your best friend if your a makeup artist who does a lot of ‘touch ups’ through working on TV, or Editorial shoots.

I’ve been wanting this palette for the last 3 years, but borrowing other peoples BBU Palettes, on recent jobs has definitely firmed up to me that I NEEDED this palette and it was 100% worth the extortionate amount of money it sells for.

What do you guys think of this palette? Is it on your wish list too?

Meeting Lisa Eldridge! Life Goal Made.

IMG_0965 (4)

Well what a MINDBLOWING day. I’m writing this from the train back home from London to Leeds and I genuinely feel like I’m floating on cloud 9 right now, I mean, did that really just happen?

Lisa Eldridge is what just happened. Queen Lisa. Goddess Lisa. THE Ms L. E. THE LISA ELDRIDGE. Here’s what happened…

The morning started off with a 7.40am train from Leeds to London and a 15 minute tube ride to the beautiful part of London that is Sloane Square, my destination being the spectacular Peter Jones Store.

I ended up arriving in plenty of time, however I was more than happy to be an extra pair of hands to help everyone set up for the important day.
The event took place in the Sloane Room, when I arrived everyone was busy getting on with individual jobs. Jobs included organising the goodie bags for the guests, helping with refreshments, to glamming up fellow Lancôme members ready for the event and lastly  helping to set up the gorgeous make-up stations. The station set ups which would be used by the Lancôme Make-up Artist Team after the Q&A with Lisa Eldridge, included skincare which ranged from Bifacil, Micellaire Water, Advanced Genifique, Light Pearl and a range of moisturisers. Make-up displayed included the La Base Pro Primer, L’absolu Rouge Lipsticks, Matte Shakers, Lip Liners, Cushion Blush Subtils, and range of powders from Belle de Teint to Teint Idole Powder and to make the experience a memorable one newly launched Tresor La Nuit was today’s Perfume of choice to be used.
I had the pleasure of freshening up Emily’s make-up who is the Head of Pr in Social Media. Emily explained she didn’t want a lot so we agreed on mainly base product with a nice pop of colour on the lips. We used Ultra Wear Foundation (04), with a slight dusting of Teint Idole Powder through her T-Zone, to add colour back to her cheeks I went for a light wash of Cushion Blush Subtil (022) and we finished off with L’absolu Rouge Lipstick in shade Isabella (189). After helping where needed, I took the opportunity to grab a few pictures of the make-up stations and overall event. This time felt like the calm before the storm. The decor looked beautiful, very elegant, feminine and classic, as it does on every Lancôme event. I think we can all agree Lancôme definitely knows how to host an event… not biased by any means!

IMG_0946 (2)

IMG_0971 (2)

IMG_0966 (2)

At this point I was handed my ‘press’ card, which excited me, from this point onwards you can just call me a mini Alexandra Steinherr (lol!).

Once fellow guests arrived, it was the time we had all been waiting for. We were incredibly lucky to have the gorgeous bubbly Canadian Youtuber Estee Lalonde interviewing Lisa.

Estee was brilliant! Viewing her Instagram story, she explained how nervous she was as it was the first time she had ever interviewed and you had no idea, it was flawless, very effortless. She confidently asked Lisa lots of questions about her love of makeup, her earliest memories and building her career and a name for herself from the age of 13. I had previously thought about some questions I would ask Lisa and Estée pretty much got Lisa to answer all of them, see she was a real natural!

It was so inspiring to hear Lisa talking about how she interprets everyday life into her work, as this is what inspires her. Whether it is two contrasting objects together or tones of colours she sees that she likes together. She has a photographic memory, which she takes inspiration from.  As well as this Lisa shares the same love of iconic film stars such as Bridget Bardot and Marlene Dietrich.

IMG_0954 (2)

A burning question which a lot of people were dying to know, was what’s Lisa’s predictions on the upcoming trends? She believes minimal fresh skin, colour blocking and doubling up colour is a new trend which will take off this year, which is very interesting to know.

Lisa spoke about how her own personal makeup inspirations have shifted slightly. Previously the Korean/ Japanese girls inspired her a lot, with the bright pop of colours on the lips and pale skin. But now she’s attracted to the West Coast, L.A. vibes, entering into Spring Summer.
As a Lancôme Make-up artist I often see so many new exciting products that appeal to me on social media by Lancôme but never actually launch in the UK and I know a lot of people share my frustration. Hearing Lisa speak about the struggles and pressures of being a Creative Director for such a global beauty brand, was so interesting and really opened up my mind. Lisa explained how all countries around the globe, have such high expectations, with different interpretations of what beauty is to them, so creating products which can be sold globally can be hard to appeal to everyone. Lisa referred to her love of L’absolu Rouge Lipstick at this point and how her 84 chosen shades of Lipstick was a global launch, because there are colours that apply to all of these different markets, so everyone’s a winner. Her chosen L’absolu Rouge lip today was 393 – ‘Rose Rose’.

IMG_0958 (4)

It was interesting to hear her favourite international SPF product is the Precious Cells sunscreen with SPF 50, which Lisa can’t stress the importance of using an SPF to prevent ageing, this is definitely one product I will be keeping my eyes out for on my travels!

Lisa shared with us her desert island product when asked by Estée and how she feels the same with majority of women it has to be a base product and is no longer mascara. Lisa’s would be the upcoming camouflage cream, as she suffered with acne as a teen and has never out grown out of the use of a good concealer.
On the topic of concealer, it was interesting to hear as a Lancôme make-up artist that customers were mainly asking a lot of concealer based questions, which opened up my mind as to how the desert island product really has changed, which comes as no surprise I guess, due to the selfie ready environment we live in today!

IMG_0956 (2)

Lisa’s secret to perfecting the skin on all her clients and models is the use of her special mixing techniques of products to get the perfect formula for the individual. Whether it be mixing eye cream with concealer, serum with foundation, bb cream with concealer. The possibilities are endless and at the base of it all I found a new passion for concealer myself and how it really is a beauty product that may not get enough praise.

Another product recommendation from Lisa was the Grandiose mascara for sparse lashes. She couldn’t stress enough that massaging the products into the roots of the lash is key, up until the point where it almost becomes unbearable for her client, before dragging to the end of lashes and zigzagging up, a super handy tip that really does work, trust me – I’ve already put this tip into action!

I loved hearing about Lisa’s story and advice about her freelance career. Hearing how she got to assist the ever so talented Mary Greenwell was so fascinating! Lisa was told when she went to see Marys agent at Premier she didnt need to assist as her work was already amazing, however Lisa felt she was lacking the knowledge of working as a team, acting as a make-up artist on a ‘proper’ shoot. She said she felt up until that point she had just done her own thing, but know wanted to step it up and be in the best professional position she could possibly be!- How inspiring? Even when she was told by one of the Worlds BEST make-up agencies Premier she was good enough, it wasn’t enough she wanted more. This lady never settles, which I LOVE.

There was also there Lancome Make-up Team working on the day, offering attendee’s a make-up service, from the products provided on the stations. Many opted for a complexion make over using the much loved Ultra Wear foundation, whilst others opted for a pop of fun, with lip art using the fun bright new Matte Shakers!

IMG_0990 (2)

IMG_0996 (2)

IMG_1008 (2)

I finished the day on an absolute high meeting Lisa, grabbing a photo with Lisa! LIFE GOAL MADE. Lisa even complimented me on my make-up. LIFE GOAL MADE 1000x OVER.
I was also gifted with Lisa’s ‘Facepaint’ Book (which I was thrilled to be taking home), by the lovely Charlotte Wood, who invited me to the whole event.
Charlotte also works for Lancome and is a talented make-up artist, you can check out her work on instagram, her handle is ‘@charlottewood.mua’.

I had such a memorable day and felt so honoured to be a part of the special day for Lancome!

Hope you’ve enjoyed reading about this? Have you met Lisa before? Did you attend the event? Let me know below!

Thank you,

One2One with Lyndsey Harrison!

Hello!

So this post is following on from my most recent post which can be found here!

If you’ve not read that post to give you a little round up I’ve been following Lyndsey Harrison’s work since studying at Leeds City College, studying my BTEC Diploma in Performing Arts. Roughly that must be about 6 years ago now (2011) which is mind blowing.
I first discovered Lyndsey’s work after she was mentioned by Sam Chapman (Pixiwoo) in a Youtube Video. When researching Lyndsey’s work, encouraged by Sam, I then discovered she was working Behind The Scenes of TOWIE, glamming up the girls for their on screen appearances. Being a lover of the glam make-up and TOWIE, it was a non brainer that I became a follower of Lyndsey’s work and spoke to her a few times over the years.
Lyndsey now works daily with Celebrities such as Charlotte Crosby, Denise Van Outen, Lydia Bright, Sam and Billie Faiers to name a few!

Finally last Saturday I was able to meet Lyndsey in person, as my parents had booked a One to One lesson with her as part of my Christmas Present, it was just down to me to organise it all! So I thought I would share with you a little review/ insight of the day, without giving too much away!

After contacting Lyndsey over email and Lyndsey offering me a selection of varied dates, I opted for a Saturday and Lyndsey’s timing of 1-3pm suited my travelling needs perfectly. As I would be travelling from Leeds – Marlow.
Sorting out payment prior with Lyndsey was so efficient and easy. A bonus was the button on the email which came with the invoice which had the option to ‘send a notification’ after payment had been done, which was super handy!

On Saturday Morning I was greeted by a text from Lyndsey, whilst on my way down and took the opportunity to tell her I would be arriving much earlier than 1pm, due to the Sat Nav taking us a different route to which we had originally planned. Lyndsey offered to start the One2One half an hour earlier, putting me first, which I was so grateful for! To pass the time on Lyndsey suggested I venture down to the High Street, which was an amazing high street – you don’t get these types of highstreet’s up north! I’m talking about your Space NK, Jack Wills, WHSmiths, Zizzi’s plus loads more on a HIGH STREET. Everything you could ever need. After grabbing some Fish and Chips and wandering back to the car it was time to head to the One to One… Eeek!

Lyndsey’s studio is so easy to find with a private car park, it’s so beautiful, so clean and so organised, every girl’s dream. Her studio is decorated with magazine cuttings and beautiful images of her celebrity clients and friends, which made a great inspiring work environment to be in!

Lyndsey made me feel so comfortable, having to do make-up in front of a celebrity make-up artist can be a daunting experience, but don’t let this put you off, Lyndsey’s persona is very calming and laid back which helps to put you at ease and really gets the best out of you. Lyndsey really listened to what I wanted to gain and tailored the lesson to suit, giving industry advice and tips throughout. The 2 hours passed by so quickly!
We decided on a glamorous type make-up which Lyndsey regularly creates on her celeb clients. Lyndsey explained how this would be beneficial for me to learn as I could recreate on clients as well on photo shoots and would be beneficial for me and in my portfolio. In which I agree.
Lyndsey did one half of my face and I mirrored on the other side, after each step. Ideally it would have been great and much easier to have a model to use, however coming down from Leeds and choosing a Saturday Afternoon didn’t leave me much choice!
Putting this aside I still got as much out of it as I thought I would. Using products from my own kit along with my own brushes, was so handy.
I have also come away with knowledge of new products and up to date industry techniques to add to my kit in future.
The freedom and encouragement to take photos throughout is a bonus and a great way to remember the day too!
If you are thinking about booking in with Lyndsey, I would highly recommend even with a First Class Honours Degree in Media Makeup with Special Effects, I still came away learning new techniques with confidence. It really is worth the money!
Below are a few pictures of the make-up!

Current Skincare Routine.

Welcome back!

So I thought I would share with you today, my every day skin care routine. As these are one of my favourite topics to find out about people in hope I will find a new product I might want to try myself!

Cleanser
The cleanser I am currently using, I have been using on and off for the past 3 years. I only ever move away from it, to try other products.
This one is the Lancome Gel Eclat Foaming Cleansing Gel, suitable for normal to combination skin types. It is activated with water and only a small pea sized amount is required to cleanse the entire face and free the skin from any impurities. It leaves the skin feeling ‘squeaky’ clean, soft and radiant looking.
Its the perfect partner for the Clarisonic Mia, which I frequently use on a weekly basis.

img_0661-2

Toner
After Cleansing my favourite all time Toner is again by Lancome and is the Tonique Douceur toner. This toner is the best one I’ve tried, its a very gentle toner, but really refreshes and hydrates the skin quickly, it doesn’t leave the skin feeling oily or greasy. Its perfect for an normal to combination skin type and is alcohol free. I do strongly believe its improved my skins texture over time. It is slightly fragranced, I believe this is from the plant extracts it contains, but has never aggravated my sensitive skin.

img_0666-2

Serum
Surprise Surprise another product by Lancome!
This one is the Lancome Advanced Genifique Youth Activating Concerntrate, Lancome’s Number One Serum. I have used this again for so many years and cant go a day without using it. It really helps to wake my skin up on a morning, its so refreshing and light. it comes with a pipette, in one click a measured amount is released, so there is no chance of over using the product. The serum is a milky white colour and helps to add radiance, firmness, elasticity, even out the skin tone and texture of the skin.

img_0665-2

Eye Cream
I love eye cream, I think its such an important part of a basic skin care routine. I sometimes get quite puffy eyes on a morning through tiredness and any form of eye cream really helps to hydrate my eyes and help me me wake up on a morning.
I do have to say I’m not particularly loyal to a certain eye cream, I tend to try something new every time my old one runs out. At the moment I’m currently using a La Roche Posay one for Hydrating Sensitive Eyes, its a nice light gel non- sticky formula and really fast absorbing.

img_0673-2

Day Cream
Again, I’m quite similar to eye cream with Day Cream. I have a few Day Creams I like to mix and match between depending on how my skin is feeling. I like the Lancome Hydrazen Day Cream for Normal Skin and another great one from Lancome is the Energie de Vie Liquid Moisturiser. If I’m wanting more hydration throughout the day the Embryollise La Creme Concentrate is a beautiful moisturiser and a great base for make-up. Currently I am using an Emma Hardie Amazing Face Moisturiser, I got a travel size to try when I purchased the Emma Hardie Amazing Face Cleansing Balm and its a really nice cream. Not too heavy, not greasy. But I do have to say you only need a small amount as sometimes if you use a little too much and then go onto apply foundation it can peel off.

img_0676-2

Night Cream
The Night Cream I am currently using I absolutely adore. I have never seen such quick results from a night cream before. The product I’m referring to is again by Lancome and is the Energie de Vie Sleeping Mask. It is a 2 in 1 product. You can use a thin layer and the product can be used as a Night Cream or a thicker amount can be applied and be left on for up to 10 minutes and it can be used as an intense hydrating mask. The texture is very different to any other product I’ve come across, its a melt in formula to is a very light weight soft gel and once it hits the heat of the skin the product starts to break down into water droplets to hydrate the skin. It leaves the skin feeling super smooth, bouncy and soft. I know the Energie de Vie Range is targeted for a dull tired looking skin so is filled with a lot of anti- oxidants, lemon balm extract and acai berries to help fight against dull tired, de-hydrated skin. I love the  clean, fresh, light up lifting scent of this product, really reminds me of the Summer time.

‘The Game Changer’

Introducing ‘THE Game Changer’ in the hair department.

img_0564-3

So who else was like me and hates washing, drying, generally giving their hair any form of attention because it takes a ridiculous amount of time?

See how my key word there was ‘was’… Wahey, not anymore!

Long gone are the days of holding a heavy hairdryer with an aching arm for a good 20-25 minutes, thanks to my new product discovery. Meet the Keraste Resistance Ciment Thermique.

I was introduced to this saviour of a product when I went for my hair doing at Vidal Sassoon in Leeds.

The person who had to tackle my mane was Nathaniel. After several hairdressers and variety of combs and brushes later after getting my hair washed (I’ll save that story for another day!) I was ready for my hair to be dried, the bit I had been dreading, as it usually can take upto 20-30 minutes, with a decent hair dryer too – we’re talking with a Ferrari engine. I do not mess around, do I?

Nathaniel whipped out this tall thin blue bottle of hair product which he used a 10p sized amount and ran through my hair using his hands, before evenly distributing with a comb, before drying. 10 minutes drying time it took. 10 bloody minutes!

‘Kerastase Resistance Ciment Thermique’, you game changer, you.
Yes its a mouthful, but Oh my its insane.
Its a cream which you apply on towel dried hair.  Less is definitely more with this product, as you only need a small amount. Use too much and well its back to the shower for you.
The small amount is better in the long run anyway, as the product will last you so much longer!

img_0573-2

It has heat activated properties in so when the heat from the hairdryer hits the cream it creates a special Topseal which has been specially made by Kerastase and is there signature trademark weapon. This ‘top coat’ formula which works to strengthen and repair the hair inside out, claiming 87% less breakage. And I’m a firm believer.

.
Its halved the drying time of my hair, which is incredible!! It now only takes me 10 minutes tops to dry my hair which before using this product would be completely unheard of.
The healthy clean shine it leaves my hair its again just magic, a product has never had this much of an impact before, even those claiming to have ‘shine enhancing’ properties in them haven’t finished close. Its impossible to gain frizzy unmanageable hair from this, as once the hair is dry its so gorgeously smooth and silky soft… an absolute dream.
But most importantly its improved the overall condition of my hair in the long run, which I am most pleased with.
If you want super lightweight, silky, shiny conditioned hair like the girls in the ads have you NEED this I cannot recommend this enough, you will certainly not be disappointed.

img_0567-2

Give this ago, and let me know what you think!!
