What does CC mean? ‘Colour Correcting’

But what is Colour Correcting?
Colour Correcting is a simple professional layering technique used by many make-up artists, to instantly improve the appearance of the skin, with the use of make-up – an advanced hugely noticeable quick fix.

The theory of the colour correcting comes from art and the artists colour wheel, which is used to create all the colours we have around us today.

Below is a very basic Colour Wheel:

Image result for colour wheel simple

When Colour Correcting colours opposite each other on the wheel, always work together, as you want to do the opposite of the problem and help.

Green + Red
Blue + Orange
Purple + Yellow

Applying this theory and knowledge to make-up:
Any redness/ rocacia to the skin, we will use the GREEN CC Primer ONLY IN THE RED AREAS to help lift the redness.

To help lift and neutralise dark circles before concealer is applied we will apply the PINKY PEACH CC Primer to the dark areas only.

To help with any sallowness to the skin we will use the PURPLE CC Primer to just these areas to help neutralise, in my past experience Purple Colour Corrector’s work great with Asian skin tones.

Lastly our YELLOW CC Primer is a universal corrector helped to use mild redness, improve dullness and fatigue to the skin.

Product Description from Lancome:
A color-correcting primer in a cushion compact that instantly provides weightless color correction of any skin coloration concern and hydration for a bright, flawless complexion. Miracle CC Cushion – Color Correcting Primer features a perfectly pigmented formula that allows for buildable coverage to spot correct imperfections or all over correction.
Formulated with pine extract to correct uneven skin tone and glycerin for hydration and glow, the CC Cushions leave a fresh, cooling sensation on skin. Layer it under your foundation for a non-cakey, transfer-free, skin-perfecting result.

What makes Lancome different from other brand correctors?
From using other brands correctors, our CC Primers from Lancome are like no other correctors on the market, due to the lightweight texture, cooling sensation and the fresh ‘slippy’ feeling the cushion format provides.
The correctors aren’t the brightest corrector’s on the market and that’s absolutley fine, not every CC on the market needs to have intense colour pay off, as it not for everyone. These Lancome CC primers, are perfect for those of you wanting to try the colour correcting technique but not the most confident in doing so. Fool proof, is the best way to sum these beauties up, you really can’t go wrong, perfect for the lively millenials on the go, to the leisurely generous elite!

Application & Techniques:
Apply with the ‘Less is definitely more’ approach. I got used to the cushion at first by testing on the back of the hand.
If you want a stronger coverage in an area, you’re best applying with a clean finger in a patting ‘layering’ motion rather than a circular rubbing motion.
I found using the pinky peach corrector under my eyes, I tended to pat the product on and then using wiping motions to feather out the edges to the product disappeared into the skin, so not too much would be in the way for foundation.
Around my nose I found folding the cushion in half worked better to get the product where I wanted.

Creative Lines – Eye Liner Style.

Liner, Liner, Liner.

How many of us get stuck in a rut when it comes to applying beautiful eye liner? Any of who know me will definitely know I love a good winged liner!

I thought today I would shake things up and share with you some creative ways you can apply your liner, scroll for tips and tricks for nailing your preferred liner…

Lancome Liner

Upturned: Your eyes have a natural upwards lift at the outer corner of the eye, you have visible lid space. To keep your eyes looking symmetrical and balanced a good tip would be making sure you apply liner on the top and underneath and mirror this.
Think: Angelina Jolie

Round: Your eyes are beautifully big and round. You have more ‘whites’ are your eyes visible than other eye shapes.
Think: Penelope Cruz

Monolid: You have a small eye shape with a less defined eye socket. This eye shape is very common in Asian Eyes. Bold liner is your perfect match for your eye shape!
Think: Sandra Oh

Downturned: You have a slight natural drop on the outer edge of your eye. Your eye shape is perfect for a lot of liner styles – especially the feline liner!
Think: Anne Hathaway

Hooded: Your eyes have a fold in the skin which gently rests on the lower part of the eye lid. The best liner for you is the hooded winged liner, symmetrical lines work best for you!
Think: Blake Lively

Liner Looks

Bold Liner
IMG_1799 (3)
I love this liner look, its definitely those for the brave who feel confident wearing a bold statement eye, straight from the runway!
This liner style is perfect for those of you who have a ‘monolid’!
I recommend starting from the inner corner and using your natural crease as a guide to follow. Then lifting the liner from the couter corner and perfecting into one smooth effortless line. You will need the Kohl Liner in your waterline for this one, for extra definition.

Feline Flick

IMG_0102 (3)My go to liner everyday! This is super quick and easy to do, brilliant for all eye shapes, but especially flattering for those of you who have a down turned eye.
I apply this liner by starting on the inner corner and lining my top lash line. I then like to use my bottom lash line as a guide to follow to know the angle of the flick. I then draw this line in and create a triangle shape and fill this in, so the wing has been made and soften the sharp triangle shape by creating a nice wing.

Bubble Liner

IMG_1294 (2)This is a super fun take on the feline flick liner and will definitely get people asking you about your liner in store! I like to map out a feline flick liner, as above and then create the ‘half moon’ shapes along the lash line. I have decorated mine with the Lancome Grandiose Blue Liner to enhance the bubble shape.

Cut Crease Liner

IMG_1754 (2)

Definitely more for the brave hearted! I’ve done this slighty over exaggerated and thicker than I would wear on counter so you can see the shape better. This works for the majority of eye shapes, but everyone’ s will look different due to the shape/ size of the eye! I recommend starting on the outside creating the line to go up and then connect the crease line by following your natural socket shape. This is one for when you have a few more minutes on hand!

Dotty Liner

IMG_1757 (2)
This is THE PERFECT Liner for those who want to wear liner, but cant master the neat ‘flick’, dot your way to creativity! Looks like you’ve spent ages on this, but takes about 30 seconds, go to liner when in a hurry believe it or not! Again I’ve used 2 colours to wear up the dots and to add interest – everyone should try this one!

Double Liner

IMG_1773 (2)This works great for a hooded eye! This looks amazing too when you just apply the liner to the bottom lash line and leave the top lash line bare!

Ombre Liner

IMG_1789 (2)Want to get creative and boost liner sales? Try this one, the Ombre Liner!
The Grandiose Liners blend amazingly together creating a dark navy colour too, which looks lovely to wear as one. Layer the black liner first, with the blue on top, if the electric sapphire colour is a little too bright for you.

Let me know if you try any of these looks out below, or tweet or tag me in your looks. My handle is @ruthbrabinermua

Top 5 Blushers for Summer

FullSizeRender (6)

With the weather getting warmer well actually more brighter let say, I thought I would share with you my top 5 blushers I think are worth checking out this summer!

First up, meet the Lancome Blush Subtil in shade ‘030 Eclat de Corail’ available to purchase here and is priced at £29.50.

IMG_1577 (2)

IMG_1606 (2)

This Lancome blush has become the blusher I reached for recently on a day to day basis. It works so well with all makeup looks and gives a beautiful radiance to the skin as well, but not glittery and not ‘in your face’ very subtil and pretty.
This blush works well on the majority of skin tones, it looks incredible if you have a beautiful olive skin too. However if your skin is darker than medium/olive I would recommend you try this blusher on in store, before buying just to make sure its definitely one for you.

Second up, is MAC Sheertone Blush in ‘Springsheen’ Which is available here and is priced at £19.50.IMG_1582 (2)

IMG_1601 (2)

I remember purchasing this blush as I didn’t have a peachy shimmery one in my kit and I needed one for a an upcoming shoot I had. This blush gives an incredibly natural finish, its not the most noticeable on the skin, its very sheer hence the ‘Sheertone formula’ its definitely better for a pale/ porcelain skin especially red heads – works an absolute dream!

Next is Lancome again but this time a different texture with the Cushion Blush Subtil, this is in the Shade 024 ‘Sparkling Framboise’, available here and is priced at £29.50.

IMG_1592 (2)

IMG_1614 (2)

IMG_1615 (2)

I adore this formula, I do believe these cushion formulas are easier to blend into the skin and are less likely to go patchy, due to the fresh creamy light formula. These are brilliant for a dry skin, who like to avoid powder products. These last all day on the skin and can also be used on the lips too! – Perfect on the go Blush, makes a 2-in-1!

Sticking with Lancome again is Blush Subtil in shade 011 ‘Brun Roche’ this is also priced at £29.50 and available here.

IMG_1596 (2)

IMG_1609 (2)

I LOVE this blusher, its very well loved and I can almost use it as a Bronzer as I’m so pale haha! Its a great nude blush, if you want to define your cheeks and add a little bit of colour to the cheeks but dont want to introduce a new brighter colour. Gorg. Pale gals, you need this in your life.

Finally is the Illamasqua Cream Blusher in ‘Promise’ which is available here priced at £23.

IMG_1599 (2)

IMG_1612 (2)

This is such a candy pink blusher, perfect for ALL skintypes, even the darkest of skins. Its beautiful and easy to blend again as its cream. It’s a little bit of a thicker formula opposed to the Lancome Cushion so this definitely needs to be applied before any powder is introduced onto the skin – otherwise it wont sit right and will look awful ‘bitty’ and will sit on top of the skin rather than blend in with the skin.

Please let me know your Top 5 Blushers for summer this year – I’d love to know!

Curling the Lashes for MAXIMUM Results

IMG_1543 (3)

IMG_1550 (2)

Trying out Mr Big, he certainly delivers what he offers on the packet. In less than 5 seconds you’ve got a fabulous coating of mascara, exactly what a lot of mascaras offer after minutes of building the mascara up.
I do find the Mr Big formula very fast drying, so you don’t have as much play time as other Lancome mascara’s but this is what sets it apart from the other Lancome mascaras, its not a bad thing as its not a drying flakey mascara, I would just be aware of this when applying Mr big for the first time.
This mascara is perfect for False Lash wearers as you can definitely feel you’ve got the big full weighty lashes, hence why this mascara is a complete no no for a natural mascara wearer.
I haven’t found Mr Big to flake on me through out the day or transfer and I absolutely love the intense black pigment it provides. I’ll be honest I do find I tend to over look this in a mascara – because black is black right?! Well no this really does have that intense black pigment which stands out.
It’s super easy to remove also at the end of the day, the Lancome Bifacil Eye Make-up Remover is an effortless gentle quick dream to get all of Mr Big’s remnants off.
Overall I love Mr Big but for me he’s definitely a special occasion mascara in my make-up bag – but don’t let my opinion put you off this mascara is an absolute must for false lash wearers – this little fella will end up saving you a lot of pennies on lashes in the long run  trust me!

Have you tried Mr Big yet? What’s your thoughts?

My PERFECT Hydrating SPF Cream!

IMG_1334 (3)

I CANNOT believe this amazing weather we are currently having in the UK, this week. It’s been absolutely boiling with glorious sunshine all week and has even reached a whopping 28 degree’s in Leeds, where I’m from… unheard of before!

Whats the weather been like for you, from where you’re from?

I couldn’t cant help but recognise the increased sales I’ve had a work this week from ladies demanding to products with SPF in. It really got me thinking into how thankful I am that I’ve finally found a moisturising day cream with SPF (Sun Protection Factor) 20, which works perfectly for me everyday. Introducing the newly launched Lancome Visionnaire Day Cream – SPF 20.

IMG_1335 (2)

This day cream was recently launched back towards the end of March and was launched in support of the Lancome Visionnaire Night Peel ‘Crescendo’.

I’ll be perfectly honest, I’ve never got on with moisturising day creams which have contained SPF in, in the past and quite frankly I’ve avoided them and looked for SPF protection in other products, such as my foundation. I know I’m the only lady which shares this opinion with SPF in day creams.
I completely understand when you add an SPF into a product you do have to add a preservative therefore that’ s what ends up changing the formula, making it into that thicker cream. I’ve always hated the ‘typical’ white thick texture, this brings, never blending seemlessly into the skin, leaving that ‘caspar the friendly ghost’ aurora to the skin. Not cute. They have often broken me out and just in general its always been a big no, no from me. As there’s been more negative experiences than positive ones.

IMG_1315 (2)

My mum absolutely raves about the original Visionnaire Day and Night Cream, she is absolutely obsessed and manages to get her hands on the 75ml sized jars where ever possible.
I’ve never really given it ago and I think its because of the last year or so, I have become oblivious into how much my skin has improved and changed. Therefore my skincare needs are now what the Visionnaire Cream has to offer, instead of Lancome Hydrazen cream.

The Visionnaire Cream is known for improving wrinkles, skins texture and appearance. Its filled with hyalauronic acid and a patented ingredient ‘Jasmonade’ which is Lancome’s own formula. This is the ingredient which plants produce on a night time to help repair themselves, which has the same effect on our skin. Its creates a silkly soft second skin feel to your skin, leaving your skin feeling fresh, supple and luminous just after 3 days. I really do agree. I’ve even felt my old acne scarring has reduced dramatically and I would even go as far to say that the SPF has had a huge role to play in this. As its protected this damaged/scarred area of my skin from the sun, therefore its not aggravated my scarring and only helped to reduce.

Even work colleges have commented on this and trust me, working in a beauty hall that’s saying something – a group of experts seeing me most days and even they have seen a big enough difference to comment – says just how good this product is!

I feel if you have an normal/ combination (oily) skin – I would definitely recommend in giving this a try, its worked wonders for me and even I have the most sensitive skin.

IMG_1333 (2)

Try a pick up a free sample at your local Debenhams, or even go into store and speak to one of the consultants and feel the texture on your hand, I know you will be pleasantly surprised!
Oh and as for my mum raving on about the Visionnaire Creams, well I guess ‘MUM’S ALWAYS KNOW BEST, RIGHT?’ Right.

Let me know which SPF Day Cream works for you and why you love it below.

How to Bubble Eye Liner! The NEW Trend!

Hey Guys!

Today I’m sharing with you a new liner trend, which is a fun cute wearable way to wear liquid liner!

I learnt this new technique recently whilst on my Lancome Make-up Artist Training and was actually surprised at how wearable and fun it looked so thought I would share with you, if you want to spice things up with your liner routine!

What I will be using:
Lancome Visionnaire Yeux
Lancome Effacernes Concealer
Lancome Loose Powder
Lancome Grandiose Liquid Liner
Lancome Hypnose Drama Mascara

Step 1.
IMG_1241 (2)

You will need to start by prepping your eye with an eye cream, to ensure the make-up we apply goes on easy therefore it will result in a flawless and professional finish!
For this I am using the Lancome Visionnaire Eye Balm. This is my current eye cream of choice, as I am currently the Visionnaire Day Cream with SPF 20, so I love to match my skincare for maximised results. I’m loving this balm as its a silky light balm texture, with a cooling finish, which isn’t too rich or greasy. It uses hydro-blur technology so evens out the skin tone, texture, minimises any fine lines and reduces the appearance of dark circles and bags. Perfection in a bottle for this liner look!
Remember girls, you only need a grain of rice sized amount of eye cream, less is definitely more!

Step 2.
IMG_1244 (2).JPG
Next we want to create a flawless base. So for this I like to use the Lancome Effacernes Concealer. I use this concealer every day to prime my lids. This concealer is Waterproof, so it stays put all day with NO creasing and it gives amazing coverage. Its a liquid concealer with a light cream texture, which gives such a natural result, which is why I love this.
Again I use a rice grain sized amount and apply to my lid using my ring finger in small patting motions. You don’t want to be pulling and rubbing your eye area, as your skin around your eye is so delicate, up to eight times thinner in fact! It is known that using your ring finger applies the least amount of pressure out of all your fingers – apparently!

Step 3.
IMG_1247 (2)
With Concealer done its important to set that perfect base with a dusting of powder. My choice of powder today is the Lancome Loose Powder in Translucent. I’m obsessed with a good translucent powder as it doesn’t alter the colour of your base, doesn’t look patchy it just sets your base with a see through veil, gorgeous! To apply this I just use a small fluffy brush.

Step 4.
IMG_1278 (2)

Now onto the fun bit! The liner. I’m using the Lancome Grandiose Liquid Liner, as its the best liquid liner I’ve found on the market and trust me I’ve tried everything and I’m super fussy. From a liquid liner I want an intense black pigment, not a off black – whats the point!? I always prefer a matte finish, as I find it looks more intense which Grandiose delivers on! I love a liner which dries fast and doesn’t smudge or run through out the day and again Grandiose doesn’t disappoint on this. Grandiose is built in with a water based formula, which sets with a matte film over which stops the product transferring – Genius! Plus I adore the click handle. Basically you can snap the handle of the liner to a 45 degree angle for ease of application, creating better precision.

Start by creating 1 half circle on the centre of your lid. From this point to another 2 either side. You then need to draw the line out, forming the wing. From this its so important to do a half circle on the bend of the wing to connect. I then was able to do another 2 small half circles on the ‘winged’ part. However this section all depends on your own eye shape and the overall look you want! I suggest working methodically in your head so you can get the shape symmetrical on the other eye.

Step 5.
IMG_1262 (2)

Now you have the basic shape, you now need to join up the half circles and neaten up the liner circles too. Once your happy follow steps 1- 5 on the other eye.

Step 6.
IMG_1285 (2)

Curl your lashes and finish with your Favourite Mascara. Today I’m using the Lancome Hypnose Drama, Mascara as I love a false lash effect which this mascara gives. It has excellent play time to allow you to build and layer the product up to give you thick full lashes.

Step 7. (Optional)
IMG_1294 (2)

I then decided to layer my Grandiose Liners! I decided to outline my edges with the Grandiose Liner in the Sapphire Blue Shade. I love this as I feel it really ties the look together and really defines the shape of the bubbles.

Step 8. (Also Optional)
Finally take a picture and Tweet/ Instagram Tag me your result – I would LOVE to see!
