Preventing Prickly Heat this Summer

Prickly Heat – The Dreaded Ugly Rash. The Holiday Ruinner.

From the age of around 9 years old, every holiday without fail I’ve suffered with the unbearably itchy irritating red rash which goes by the name of ‘Prickly Heat’.

This will roughly be about my 13th year of coping with Prickly Heat during the summer months on holiday and the dreaded heat rash likes to make an appearance on my feet and on recent holidays its taken a liking to the backs of my hands.

Anyone who has ever suffered with this condition on holiday knows full well that the rash truely lives upto the expectation of its name and its the perfect name to describe the sensation you feel.

Prickly Heat is often referred to a ‘sweat rash’. It makes a well known appearance when your sweat glands produce more sweat than normal and your sweat ducts get blocked, meaning the sweat leaks into the skin. The sweat then gets trapped with no where to go, which then irritates the skin surrounding. Which causes a red, irritated itchy rash with small bumps on the skin. A living nightmare.
Anyone can be affected by prickly heat and it can happen to anyone of any age, however it is more common in younger children, especially in hot humid climates.

I’ve learnt for me on holiday as soon as the red blotchy bumps appear, it really is game over. The key from this point on is to not itch, as much as it irritates you to want to itch, itching the area, only makes the rash much much worse – unbearable infact.

Tips – Here’s some advice which has helped me, these may not work for you as everyone is different and I’m not by any means a medical professional.

1. Purchase a Tan Accelerator

May sound bizzare, but for me this really does help. I swear by the Gatineau Tan Accelerator (400ml).
Its a lotion you apply to your skin BEFORE holiday for a minimum of 2 weeks before your holiday. You also apply it on an evening AFTER sun exposure too and I tend to use it after my holiday until it runs out.
This lotion will prepare your skin for sun exposure, boost your skin during sun exposure and will also pro -long your tan after sun exposure too. The lotion contains Melanin Production Activators, to get the melanin in your skin ready. I love this product as I’ve found this to really get my sensitive skin ready for the sun, to me I’m not fussed about the colour of my tan so I don’ t use it for that, however its a bonus too. I really recommend trying this or a similar product if you’re a prickly heat sufferer and not tried this previously.

2. Eurax Cream

This Cream is brilliant to apply to help prevent the burning itch. I don’t feel it completely takes away the irritation, however it does help to reduce the intensity. This cream is a brilliant cream to take an holiday as you have all basis covered as it also helps with Eczema, Dermatitis, Allergic Reactions, Bug/ Insect Bites, Chicken Pox and Sun Burn.

3. Magicool Plus Prickly Heat

So this is a new product I’m taking away with me this year, so I will report back on my findings. I’ve discovered this from online research of Prickly Heat and a cooling spray sounds heavingly as it is, but because this is a Prickly Heat focused product, Im definitely picking this up to give it a whirl.

4. Piz Buin – Allergy Skin Sensitive Sun Range
Image result for piz buin allergy range

I’ve used this brand of sun cream before but for some reason I don’t think if I have ever used the Allergy Sun Range. Opting for a sun sensitive sun range, again is advice which kept coming up in preventing Prickly Heat when researching. This year I’m planning to give this range a go, so I will report back on how I get on!

– Always keep cool, I’ve found trying to keep my feet in water has always taken away the sting. Whether it be around the pool, or even in the hotel room sitting with my feet in cold water, helped to cool down my irritation. Alternatively rinsing a flannel and leaving it to soothe the area feels amazing, lol!
– Do keep topping up with the SPF, you don’t want to get burnt in the area prickly heat effects you as this will just leave to further irritation.
Aloe Vera Cream, which has been kept in the fridge feels like the next best discovery to sliced bread!
– Wear loose light clothing
– Most IMPORTANTLY – DO NOT ITCH THE ITCH! If you itch it prepare, for it to get 50 times worst, trust me I did it as a 9 year old and I learnt the hard way, the pain still haunts me on holiday – so I know not to itch.

I hope this has been helpful? Let me know below. Also if you have anything to help prevent or whatever you find works for you please let me know I would LOVE to hear!!!

Origins: Out of Trouble Face Mask

THE PRODUCT: Origins Out of Trouble Face Mask

Available at:, Debenhams, Boots, John Lewis

Price: £24

Amount of Product: 100ml

Skin Type: Oily/ Combination/ Acne Prone

What they say:
‘When skin is too-slic or when more pressing problems start to pop up, Origins is here to keep skin Out Of Trouble. Super-absorbent Zinc Oxide and Sulfur plus calming Camphor rapidly soak up oily-shine, slough off dead cells and sweep away debris. Together they steer skin clear of slippery situations, refine rough texture and pull the plug on troublemakers to help prevent potential outbursts.’

Why I like it:

How & Why I like to use this:
I love to use this once or twice a week, I feel it really calms my skin and prevents any breakouts which I think may be round the corner from popping out. I find myself using this whilst I have a bath as this mask only needs to be on for 10 minutes, so its quite a quick easy mask to fit into my routine whilst in the bath.
Its a perfect product which can just be used in small areas instead of a full face mask and I have been told by Amber my friend who works for Origins it can be used as an over night treatment on any blemishes.
I can whole heartedly say the main reason I continuously repurchase this product time again and again is because I feel it makes me skin a lot clearer, brighter and most importantly less aggravated. It really soothes and takes the redness out of my skin and I can always guarantee this product to give me an extra trust worthy boost to pick my skin up.
The size of the mask is a really good size, it lasts ages but not long enough to feel like the product may have gone off or to get bored of the product.
I really like the packaging, its really clean and easy to use and not messy in the slightest, compared to masks I have used before which have come in tubs.
I quite like the smell of this product, its very minty however if you’re not keen on mint scents I suggest you go into store and ask to smell the tester before purchasing. I wouldn’t say the smell is enough to stop you from purchasing as it’s not overwhelming and considering this product is only on for your skin around 10 minutes, it’s not going to be on your skin all day like a day cream. I would suggest hanging on in there with the smell and reep up the benefits the product has to offer.
I wouldn’t say this is the most affordable, but its definitely worth every penny. I do believe you get what you pay for with skincare. I would try and buy this product when stores have promotions on and to get it a little bit cheaper, as after all its a skin TREATment to me, so not essential but compliments my skincare regime very well.

New Product Launch, Juicy Shakers

Today an exciting NEW product was launched at Lancome stores across the UK… although some lucky people may have already got their hands on this product already in Selfridges, as it has been an in store exclusive for the past few weeks!

I’m talking about the LANCOME JUICY SHAKERS!

Its safe to say there’s definitely not a product like it on the market, which makes it so fun, innovative and definitely worth the hype.

The juicy shakers are made up with a combination of oils and colour pigment.
The more you shake your lil shaker the more intense the colour pigment will be, hence the cute funky packaging of the little cocktail shakers, to remind you to shake, shake, shake!

You apply the shakers with a berry cushion applicator and get the best effects by dabbing on the lips and layering the applications to build colour up, no sliding necessary with this fun size product!
The shakers have been designed with three holes in the bottom of where the dabber applicator sits, so the dabber applicator will have just the right amount of product on.

Perfect for on the go, the oils will help to hydrate and nourish your lips, whilst keeping them looking tip top on trend this season. You can apply straight to the lip or over your favourite lipstick or lip liner, these really are a multi-purpose product you need to try, with out the stickiness…So bye bye to the awful hair sticking lip gloss!
Looking at the top visual of Lupita Nyong’o ‘s lips I think she is wearing Rouge in Love Lipstick in ‘Violette Coquette’ (381B) underneath her Juicy Shaker which is likely to be ‘Berry in Love’ (283).

I believe they’re are 20 shades available world wide but only 14 available in the UK, with the ‘Mint To Be’ being a limited edition, so you will need to be quick to snap this little one up. Some shades are sheerer than others, with others being slightly more sparkly than others, but there will definitely be one to suit you! These will be priced at £18 each.

Have you tried the new Juicy Shakers yet?
